The Caribbean or the West Indies, is a region of the globe corresponding to the watershed of the Caribbean sea. It was sometimes called the "Mediterranean of the New World''. The Caribbean is considered as the subset of South America, Latin America, Central America or North America. Generally, the Caribbean consist 27 territories, which is divided into greater Antilles and  lesser Antilles,  including overseas  department, dependencies and sovereign states.  As for many people, the Caribbean is a unique place, and most people refers to it as the  paradise on earth. 

Among these territories, we have Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica and Puerto Rico which constitute the greater Antilles, and  for the lesser Antilles, we have Martinique, Guadeloupe, Dominica, Antigua, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Grenada,  St. Kitts, Barbados, St. Maarten, Bahamas, St. Thomas etc... I am going to start with Haiti, which is where I am from.

Haiti

Haiti, officially the Republic of Haiti, is a country of the Greater Antilles occupying the western third of the island of Hispaniola (28 000 km2). Its capital is Port-au-Prince.

The slave revolt in Santo Domingo is the origin of the creation of the Republic of Haiti in 1804 became the first independent republic of the majority black population after the abandonment of the island by the army of Napoleon Bonaparte. Haiti is also the onlyindependent Francophone Caribbean. It is also the first black country to take its independence alone. In addition, Haiti has helped his neighbor the Dominican Republic to take its independence.

Haiti is a country in the developing world, which experiences a nascent democracy and attempts to organize and rebuild after the devastating earthquake that has devastated one third of its territory. Yet with the same natural conditions of departure as its neighbor, the Dominican Republic  lives better thanks to tourism. Haiti occupied the number one tourist destination in the Caribbean in the years 1950.1960 and 1970. Nicknamed "The Pearl of the Antilles", it was once the most visited country in the Caribbean
